Literacy Partners Needs You
By Volunteering 30 minutes a week to read to a student, you can help solve one of the largest problems in the Greater Austin area - school dropout rates.  Research shows that children not reading at grade level by the end of 3rd grade are four time more likely to drop out of school.  Join the movement to change this trend and demonstrate you care about community by becoming a literacy partner or mentor in your neighborhood school. Ready to take action? Make a 30 min. - 1 hour weekly commitment to serve from November 2015-May 2016. Register by early ... read full article

Lifesimple Mobile Calendar App

Parents, have you heard about Lifesimple app?  This app was designed by a local Austin company to make it easier for parents to see all the calendars in one place.  You can have the BCE administrative calendar be integrated directly in your calendar on your phone.  All you have to do is install the free Lifesimple app and search for “Lake Travis” to bring up local calendars. Then select the “BCE Administrative – School Calendar”. This will populate the mobile calendar with anything on the school calendar – including PTO events & meetings, as well as important school events. If you have older children, you can do the same thing with their schools.  Here is to making life simpler!

Clothing Donations

Are you cleaning out your closets and looking for a place to donate your gently used kids clothing items?   You're in luck! Nurse Hicks is in need of gently used bottoms, shorts, and long pants for both genders and for all ages. She especially needs shorts in smaller sizes, to fit kinder and first graders, and she is in greater need of girl shorts, but will happily accept boys, too.

It is best if pants/shorts are casual style with an elastic waist so they will fit a variety of children. Thank you!

We have completed most of the beginning of the year assessments, and will be starting tutoring this week.  I want to take this time to welcome three lovely tutors to the Bee Cave family.  Students who qualify will receive support in the following areas:  Phonemic Awareness, Reading, Mathematics, and Science in the form of Planet Earth Enrichment.
